Washington DC City Breaks

There are so many attractions packed into the USA's capital city it is hard to know where to start.

In Washington, try wandering round the National Mall, which is surrounded by the Smithsonian Museums - including the National Museum of the American Indian and the National Air and Space Museum. The National Mall is watched over at one end by the Capitol Building and, at the other by the grand Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool. In return the tall Washington Monument looks over the Mall and the White House. It is here in the Mall that you can also find the haunting Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean Veterans Memorial. The statue of Thomas Jefferson stands in a rotunda overlooking the Tidal Basin and bronze statues of Franklin D Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor are also nearby. Across the river in Arlington and only a short metro stop away you will find the Arlington Cemetery - the site of the Kennedy graves. Spend the evening in one of the many restaurants in Foggy Bottom or Georgetown with its Colonial architecture and great shopping or simply stroll along the banks of the Potomac River.
