Mackinac Island, Michigan
Sometimes life comes at you so fast that it can feel like there’s no time for romance. That’s not the case on Mackinac Island, a sleepy corner of Michigan where time stands still. Since 1901 cars have been banned on Mackinac, so everything and everyone travels at a slower pace – not that there’s far to travel. This little island only measures just over 4 square miles, so getting around it is easy with the help of a bike (tandem optional!) or a romantic horse drawn carriage ride. Adventurous couples will want to enjoy the coastal scenery aboard a kayak or paddle board or let someone else take the strain and enjoy a romantic sunset cruise. Whilst the water laps again the boat you can kick back with a drink and enjoy the sunset to the soundtrack of a live band.

America’s most densely populated city might not seem like the obvious choice for a romantic getaway, but if you know where to go and what to do then a trip to the Big Apple will have you falling in love all over again. Wander hand in hand through beautiful Central Park or head out to the coast and walk the boardwalk at Coney Island, before snuggling up in a hipster bar in Brooklyn. Imagine spending a day with your soul mate exploring idyllic villages, road tripping through colourful forests or gazing out on exquisite Autumn views from epic mountain tops. Then imagine dinner and a night cap by the fire in a cosy restaurant, before retiring to bed at a homely B&B or boutique hotel.
