DAY 1 Sydney

Built on a natural harbour, Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Whether you are relaxing on its famous beaches, or soaking up its world class culture, there is no shortage of things to see and do here. Visit the famous Opera House, wander around the historic rocks district where this city has grown up around or head to Darling Harbour for a wealth of entertainment. The city has a plethora of museums to discover, or explore the beautiful Botanical Gardens, a green oasis with majestic views across the harbour. The relaxed beach suburbs of Coogee, Bondi and Manly are a bus or ferry ride away from the city and are the perfect place to while away an afternoon on golden sands.

DAY 4 Drive to the The Blue Mountains
Drive: 64 miles / 1 hour

Pick up your hire car and drive to The Blue Mountains.

Named after the eucalyptus haze that lingers above this beautiful valley, the Blue Mountains offer a heavenly escape into nature. Towering sandstone cliffs, dramatic rock formations and and lush eucalyptus forests create a landscape that’s both wild and serene. You’ll find stunning views and scenic hikes for all levels, but it’s not just about nature. The charming own of Katoomba is in the heart of the Blue Mountains and makes the perfect base for your stay. Home to the iconic Three Sisters and panoramic views over Jamison Valley, its attractions can be easily reached by car, or a hop on-hop off bus. Make a visit to  Scenic World and you will be able to ride the worlds steepest railway, and wander rainforest trails, before enjoying breathtaking views across the valley on a scenic cable car ride.

DAY 6 Drive to Dubbo
Drive: 180 miles / 3.5 hours

Dubbo doesn’t feature on many tourist itineraries, but those travellers that do venture out to The Great Western Plains will be rewarded with a historic yet vibrant town. Follow the Dubo Heritage Walk, a self-guided walk around the towns ornate heritage buildings to get an insight into thew towns past and its key landmarks. A must see the Old Dubbo Gaol, a carefully preserved 19th-century prison that brings local history to life through interactive exhibits and immersive storytelling. Home to the award-winning Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo offers a unique, open-range safari experience just minutes from the city centre. Visitors can explore the zoo by bike, car, or on foot, encountering animals from across the globe in wide, naturalistic settings. Meet the locals at The Commercial, Dubbo’s oldest pub, or choose from one of its many restaurants and bars.

DAY 8 Drive to The Hunter Valley

DAY 10 Drive to Port Mcquarie
Drive: 173 miles / 3 hours

Port Macquarie is a coastal gem that perfectly blends natural beauty, wildlife encounters, and relaxed charm. Nestled on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, it offers golden beaches, scenic coastal walks, and lush hinterland just waiting to be explored. One of its biggest draws is the chance to get close to koalas at the world-famous Koala Hospital—a heart warming experience for all ages. If you’re into outdoor adventures, try surfing, kayaking with dolphins, or hiking through rainforest trails in nearby national parks. Port Macquarie also has a thriving food scene, with local cafes and waterfront dining. DAY 12 Drive to Armidale
Drive: 152 miles / 3.5 hours

Armidale is a high-country gem that offers a rare blend of heritage, culture, and wilderness. Sitting nearly 1,000 metres above sea level in the heart of New England High Country, this elegant regional city combines crisp mountain air with a lively, creative atmosphere—making it one of Australia’s most unexpected and rewarding escapes. Its tree lined streets are home to grand 19th-century buildings, heritage cathedrals and stately homes, that tell stories of a rich colonial past. The New England Regional Art Museum houses one of the country’s finest collections of Australian art, including works by Tom Roberts and Margaret Olley. Nearby, the beautifully preserved Saumarez Homestead offers a fascinating glimpse into Edwardian life, complete with antique furnishings and rose gardens. Being a student town there’s a vibrant buzz with plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants in the city. When travelling onto Coffs Harbour, hit the road along Waterfall Way—one of Australia’s most scenic drives. You’ll pass dramatic gorges, thundering waterfalls, and ancient World Heritage rainforests. If you’re up for adventure, hike to Point Lookout or climb the granite domes of Cathedral Rock.

DAY 13 Drive to Coffs Harbour
Drive: 119 miles / 2.5 hours

Most Aussies know Coffs Harbour for its ‘Big Banana’ but stay a day or two though and you will realise that there’s more to Coffs Harbour than its Kitch landmark. Coffs is a vibrant coastal town with stunning beaches, a sub-tropical climate, and a relaxed atmosphere. The Solitary Islands Marine Park is home to dolphins, turtles, and colourful reef fish – yet doesn’t draw the crowds of its East Coast counterpart. On dry land you can stroll the iconic jetty to Mutton-bird Island, where you’ll discover panoramic ocean views and have then chance to spot whales in season. The Big Banana Fun Park adds a fun and quirky touch, with everything from toboggan rides to water slides – making this a fun stop for young families. Beyond the coast you can visit the Forest Sky pier at Niigi Niigi – a 15-metre-high viewing platform that juts out above the rainforest below.

DAY 14 Drive to Byron Bay
Drive: 145 miles / 2.5 hours

Byron Bay is a relaxed surf town and the most Eastern Point on the Australians coastline – marked by the towns iconic lighthouse. Look back a few decades and Byron was known for its alternative culture, easy-going surfers and off-the-grid hippies. Now, Byron may be a bit more refined, but it’s no less beautiful. You’ll still find incredible surf breaks and tranquil yoga retreats that give a nod to Byron’s hippie roots. You’ll also find newcomers including award-winning restaurants, luxurious beach houses and craft breweries. Stay for a few days and soak up the vibes.

DAY 17 Depart Byron Bay and drive to Brisbane
Drive: 107 miles / 2 hours

Depart Byron Bay and drive to Brisbane for your onward flight. Should you wish to extend your itinerary you can continue up Australia’s East Coast.
