Snow Safaris
The Powder Highway
Travel to British Columbia in Canada and take your pick from multiple world class ski resorts on the Powder Highway – a circular route through the Kootenay Rockies that passes by 8 alpine ski resorts. Consistent snowfall, famous champagne powder and uncrowded slopes will draw you to Revelstoke, Panorama, Kicking Horse Mountain or Fernie Alpine Resort to name a few. There are also numerous opportunities for exploring the backcountry on the route with over 20 backcountry lodges, as well as many heli-ski and cat-ski operators operating in the area. An itinerary here is easily combined with a visit to the beautiful coastal city of Vancouver or a stopover in Toronto, Eastern Canada, where you can make the short trip to the mighty Niagara Falls.
Snow, Surf & Cities in California / San Francisco to LA via the Mountains
Snow may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of California but the Golden State is blessed with world class ski resorts which are renowned for their laid back atmosphere – a characteristic inherited from the surf culture of the Pacific Coast. Our suggested itinerary starts in San Francisco where you can visit the ‘Rock’ on Alcatraz Island or ride an iconic streetcar down to Fisherman’s Wharf.
From San Fran head to Lake Tahoe where you can take your pick between two incredible ski areas – either Palisades Tahoe or Heavenly Ski Resort. Continue your ski safari with a trip to Mammoth Mountain, where the spectacular Sierra Nevada Mountain Range provides a backdrop to the slopes. High altitude, reliable snowfall and plenty of sunny ‘bluebird’ days are all features of these resorts.
Travelling from Mammoth Lakes to LA you can take in the unique terrain of Death Valley National Park with a stop enroute. Once in the ‘City of Angels’, you can make a visit to one of the famous theme parks, take in the iconic sights of west Hollywood, or enjoy the sun, sea and sand at one of the laid-back surf towns such as Huntington Beach.
Tri State Explorer
The States of Wyoming, Montana & Idaho get some of the most reliable snowfall in the USA and have some fantastic ski resorts, well known to those looking for uncrowded slopes and endless backcountry opportunities. For this 3-state journey, we suggest you include Big Sky in Montana, Sun Valley in Idaho and Jackson Hole in Wyoming. There are runs to suit all abilities at all 3 resorts but what sets these resorts apart is their accessibility to skiable backcountry and challenging runs and couloirs. Some of these have taken on a legendry status with thrill seekers, such as the Big Couloir at Big Sky, Warm Springs in Sun Valley and Corbet’s Couloir in Jackson Hole. As well amazing skiing and snowboarding opportunities, nature lovers may want to venture into the nearby Grand Teton or Yellowstone National Parks where once in a lifetime wildlife viewing awaits. Even in the depths of winter you can spot thousands of elk and bison, or join a wolf watching tour.

The high altitude and steep mountains of the American Rockies provide the perfect conditions for some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world so why restrict yourself to one resort! With the Epic Ski pass, you can ski multiple resorts under one lift pass, making it perfect for a ski safari. Take in one of the world famous resorts at Vail or Breckenridge and combine it with lesser-known gems such us Crested Butte, Keystone or even the remote resort of Telluride, regularly rated as one of the best resorts in North America. A road-trip in this part of the Rockies opens up an unbeatable variety of ski destinations that would otherwise be difficult to access as an international visitor.
