DAY 1 Adelaide

Welcome to Adelaide!

A laidback city that loves its culture, festivals and sports- Adelaide balances its historic past with a forward-thinking outlook. Lose yourself in one of its many galleries and museums, such as the classic Art Gallery of South Australia, or the futuristic MOD – a museum that blurs the lines between art and science. Taking place throughout February and March, the Adelaide Fringe is an annual celebration of theatre, comedy, music and more.  The Adelaide Oval, the cities legendary cricket field is a must see for sports fans. You can take a tour of the ground or climb over the roof of this famous stadium. Shop till you drop at pedestrianised Rundle Mall or the Adelaide Central market – the largest covered market in the Southern hemisphere! The beachy suburb of Glenelg with its organic cafes and boutique shops is just a tram ride away from the city centre and makes for a hip seaside escape.

DAY 3 The Mclaren Vale
Drive: 25 miles/ 40 minutes

Home to 150 wine producers and some of South Australia’s very best beaches, the Mclaren Valley is where the vines meet the sea. Stand out cellar door experiences include D’Arenberg’s cube – a space age sculpture come tasting room that offers panoramic views over the rolling hills and a contemporary art gallery. Visit ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ for an immersive tasting, or for their Friday night ‘Golden Times’ – live music accompanied by beautiful sunsets and a glass of something tasty. Maslin beach will wow you with its 2 mile  sand and colourful cliffs, or visit Port Willunga Beach, where you can dive or snorkel the remains of a historic shipwreck. We recommend a stay at Hotel California Inkwell Wines, for a luxurious retreat amongst the vines.

DAY 5 Kangaroo Island
Drive: 110 miles / 3 hours

Drive to Cape Jervis and take the ferry to Kangaroo Island.

Kangaroo Island rewards visitors with an array of wildlife, stunning coastal scenery, and fascinating geological features. Search for kangaroos and koalas, or swim with a pod of curious wild dolphins and you may spot seals and sea eagles too. Discover the dunes at ‘Little Sahara’ or walk amongst the Remarkable Rocks, an iconic island landmark. Australia’s third largest island is also home to an eclectic food and drink scene – sip  artisan gins, discover boutique wineries or feast on the islands sublime seafood. The exquisite Southern Ocean Lodge, makes the perfect base o explore all that Kangaroo Island has to offer.

DAY 8 The Barossa Valley
Drive: 180 miles / 4.5 hours

A land of rolling hills, characterful towns and world class wineries, The Barossa Valley is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions. Visit some of its 80 cellar doors and you’ll be able to taste its signature big reds over a lazy lunch, or enjoy a picnic amongst the vines. The 25 mile long Barossa Trail will take you through some stunning scenery and pretty villages – not to mention a few cellar doors along the way. For the ultimate bucket list experience, take a hot air balloon ride over the valley!

DAY 11 Adelaide
Drive: 45 miles / 1 hour

Return to Adelaide and drop your hire car off at the airport.

Alternatively why not extend your holiday with a road trip to Melbourne.
