ALABAMA – SWEET HOME ALABAMA
Visit remarkable Alabama and see where events such as The Rosa Park’s Montgomery Bus Boycott took place and the Selma to Montgomery March started, which shaped Civil Rights history. Montgomery was also the starting point of America’s Civil War. History aside, friendly Alabama is also home to some beautiful mountain scenery, world class golf, and lovely gulf beaches with warm water. Music fans won’t be disappointed as the state, home to Hank Williams is steeped in musical heritage with blues and southern jazz to be enjoyed in bars and clubs across the state.
LOUISIANA – THE SPORTSMAN’S PARADISE STATE
Louisiana has one of the most colourful histories of any state, resulting in a rare and exotic mix of nations and cultures, offering you an unforgettable holiday experience. Here you will experience a rich history, world class music, fabulous historical architecture, and wonderful food born of French, African, Spanish and Arcadian origin. Visit the wonderful city of New Orleans and experience the city’s thriving culture and energy for yourself.
MISSISSIPPI – THE MAGNOLIA STATE
If you are looking for great music, great adventure and a great escape then Mississippi is for you! Music enthusiasts can travel the Blues Highway, US Highway 61 from Memphis to Vicksburg and uncover a fascinating tour of the Mississippi Delta that spawned hundreds of music legends such as BB King and Muddy Waters. Don’t miss the new BB King Museum in Indianola. History buffs can march the steps of the confederacy in Vicksburg, 40 miles west of the state capital Jackson, famous for its National Military Park commemorating the 47 day siege and battle by General Ulysses Grant that change the course of the Civil War. Finally, no visit to the state would be complete without visiting Tupelo, where Elvis Presley was born and raised.
TENNESSEE – THE VOLUNTEER STATE
From the Mississippi River to the great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee combines being the capital of American music and being a place to discover the best of America’s riveting history and mouthwatering food! With it’s music embedded in the culture of the world, Tennessee has given the world legendardy artists such as Elvis, Dolly Parton, BB King and Johnny Cash.
Home to numerous international attractions, Tennessee has no shortage of things to see and do - Graceland, Dollywood, The Jack Daniels Distillery, The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and The Grand Ole Opry are just a few familiar names that you will want to include on your itinerary.
KENTUCKY – THE BLUEGRASS STATE
Beautiful grass with a bluish hue gave Kentucky it’s appellation as the Bluegrass state, and this name has become synonomous with the music of the region. However, Kentucky is probably best known for producing most of America’s Bourbon and its equine interests. Home of America’s most famous horse race, The Kentucky Derby held in Louisville each May. Whisky, Horse farms and music aside, other highlights of any visit to Kentucky are The Shaker village at Pleasant Hill - a marvellous restoration project depicting life of the religious Quaker sect that flourished here in the 19th century and Mammouth Cave National Park. Mammouth is the worlds largest cave system, where you can take a fascinating tour through the chambers and passageways.
ARKANSAS – THE NATURAL STATE
With six beautiful National parks and no less than 52 state parks to it’s name, Arkansas is deservedly known as the natural state. Here you can enjoy some of the south’s superb hospitality and an impressive array of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing and boating to name a few. History is also everywhere – learn about early European visitors at Arkansas Post National Memorial and explore the Civil War battlefields like Pea Ridge.
Meantime, delightful Eureka Springs and popular resort town Hot Springs are well worth a stop. Finally don’t miss The William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Centre and park in the heart of Little Rock.
